First dates are meant to be casual and fun. A first date allows you to get to know the person. However, that does not mean you need to open up about every gritty detail in your life in one sitting. Keep the conversation light and positive. Do compliment the other person when you first meet. This will make them feel good about their appearance. Taking notice of how they look will make him or her feel as though you appreciate the time they took to dress nice and fix their hair before the date.

Don't discuss your problems. This can ruin a first date rather quickly. The person you are meeting wants to get to know the good things about you. If you start dumping all of your problems on the table from the start, your date will think that you have too many problems to consider a serious relationship later down the road. Don't discuss your exes. The last thing any date wants to hear about is past relationships. The past needs to remain in the past. Dating someone means that you are looking to start over. If the two of you eventually become serious, the discussion of exes could eventually come up but should not be a first date discussion.
